Okay, okay, we get it; We may be a tad difficult to buy presents for. It's not that girls always seem picky,
I guess we just know what we want. But seriously, for guys putting in the extra thought, as the saying goes, that really is all that matters. If you know us well enough, you know what types of music we enjoy, and what albums we actually wanted, but just never took the effort to get out and buy ourselves. We provided a list of some gifts your girlfriend will surely appreciate this holiday season, from funny to sentimental to creative - you get the point.
1. Jimmy Fallon- Blow Your Pants Off
When your girlfriend denies having a crush on Jimmy Fallon, she is downright lying to you. Fallon's genius is so borderline ridiculous, and his musical collaborations are no exception. Although the videos serve half the purpose, Fallon's album, Blow Your Pants Off
will be sure to, err, blow her pants off? But really, who else would have Neil Young covering "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" or The Doors sing "Reading Rainbow?" This is pure gold. And if you're super late on his duet with Paul McCartney, "Scrambled Eggs," it's a guaranteed mood setter: "Scrambled Eggs/ Oh my baby how I love your legs/ Not as much as I love scrambled eggs/ Oh let's go get some scrambled eggs."
2. The Lumineers - The Lumineers
Well, if you haven't already picked up a copy of Mumford and Sons' Bable
for her (or, perhaps the both of you) then here's your chance to redeem yourself. This summer, The Lumineers' "Ho Hey" came to rise, pulling at the heart strings at countless girls (I'm not kidding) and sealing the deal for folk revival. Their simplistic Edward Sharpe-esque capability and their gentle lyrics makes this present a must-have for your gal. Just don't be too upset if she starts living in Wesley Schultz's serene love songs.
3. Vinyl Cuff Bracelets
Prices vary, ranging from $15-$30
If you have trouble picking out that perfect necklace or ring, or you're scared she won't like the pair of earrings your mom picked out for her, try finding her a far-out vinyl cuff bracelet. They are basically a one size fits all sorta deal, the only catch is surfing the web for one (try Etsy, Ebay, or gogreenitems.com), and you can find vinyl cuffs in a number of thrift stores/ music stores/ vintage shops. We left the link up for an awesome vintage store in New Jersey that boasts a large collection of 'em. If you want to get really creative with this, and have an album that's too scratched up to play, making one isn't exactly rocket science either (although once she gets it, you can tell her how many nights you spent up crafting the damn thing). Try this.
These bracelets are all unique, and if you can find her favorite vinyl as a bracelet, you're set!
4. The Rolling Stones 50 - Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts & Ronnie Wood
If your sweetheart is more of a rocker chick and book junkie, look no further. This year was the fiftieth anniversary of the Stones, and lately we've been flooded with Stones invasions in the form of documentaries, concerts, CDs, etc. This hardback book spans the Stones from 1962- 2006 and includes comments from the bandmates. It feels as if you are sitting with them, flipping through photo albums of their lives. The bonus? It'll stay on the coffee table, so that means you'll get to enjoy 50
just as much as she will.
5. Lana Del Rey Born to Die Paradise Edition Box Set
Perhaps to your dismay, your girl hopped on the mysterious yet glamorous Lana Del Rey bus. You can't exactly ignore Lana's interesting choice of words, or her coasting melodies. If your girlfriend was a fan of Born to Die
, this Paradise Edition Box Set includes three deluxe tracks that will probably invade your eardrums until New Years. Yes, Miss Rey is known for her downright ludicrous lyrics that sneak through her music, and her songs may be incomprehensible to you, but you should probably be thanking your lucky stars that she's not asking for Ke$ha's latest album instead.
