Scott Weiland, legendary frontman to groups like Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, died this Thursday at the age of 48. His passing was confirmed via a post to his Facebook page, which asked that the privacy of his family be respected, and a tweet by Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro which read "Our friend Scott Weiland has died." The tweet has since been deleted. Weiland was on tour with his band The Wildabouts and at a stop in Bloomington, Minnesota when he was found dead on the tour bus around 9 PM.

Weiland was born Scott Richard Kline on October 27th, 1967 in San Jose, California. He found success in the 90s with Stone Temple Pilots with brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo. Their debut album, Core, reached No.3 on the Billboard Charts and their follow up, Purple, reached No. 1. Over the course of their history, they sold over 40 million albums worldwide. However, conflict within the band lead to Weiland's departure. He later joined former Guns 'N Roses members Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum to make the supergroup Velvet Revolver, but was later kicked out because of his incompatibility with the rest of the group.

His distinct, low register growl and active stage presence was hugely popular during the rise of grunge, however singles like "Interstate Love Song" "Vasoline" and "Creep" were arena ready and accessible to a mainstream audience. He suffered from long term addiction issues, specifically with heroin, leading to issues with bandmates and declining health.

Weiland was mourned by many on social media today.
