The mysterious 27 Club
, is a group composed of a surprisingly large number of musicians who died at age 27, often from an unusual cause. The ranks of the 27 Club include Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, and many more rockstars who took sex, drugs, and rock n' roll a little too seriously. Here are a few musicians who probably should have ended up in the 27 Club, but somehow managed to keep on living.
1. Pete Doherty (of The Libertines)
Pete Doherty has been arrested for car theft, driving under the influence, and driving with a suspended license. He has also plead guilty to possession of crack cocaine, heroin, and ketamine, among other things, and even admits to having been a male prostitute when he was younger. What's more, Pete held an entire art exhibition of paintings he had made with his own blood.
2. Keith Richards
Now in his seventies, the Rolling Stones founding member has defied all logic by staying alive. Richards has been arrested five times for drug possession in addition to other charges for fighting, possession of weapons and ammunition, and reckless driving.
3. Ozzy Osbourne
The Black Sabbath
singer-turned-reality star is perhaps the least surprising member of this list given his well-publicized drug and alcohol abuse, but his struggle with depression (including several suicide attempts in his early years) makes his longevity truly unbelievable.
4. Britney Spears
Never forget 2007: The head-shaving; the umbrella incident. Britney was admitted into a rehab clinic and allegedly attempted suicide twice before claiming sobriety and being released into her father's custody.
5. Taylor Hawkins (of the Foo Fighters)
Back in 2001, the Foo Fighters
drummer overdosed on heroin and was in a two-week coma. Talk about cheating death.
