Back in October Warner Bros. Pictures revealed they will be making a feature film based on DC Comics' Suicide Squad, to be directed by David Ayers. The story follows a crew of DC's most ravenous supervillains on a government mission that will grant them full amnesty, the catch: the mission will likely kill them all. The tentpole film was officially announced on Tuesday, and Warner Bros. unrolled some of their stars with the announcement.
Will Smith is slated to play Deadshot. Tom Hardy will carry the role of Rick Flag. Jai Courtney will appear as Boomerang. Perhaps the most exciting announcement is 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto's involvement: Leto will be playing The Joker. It is the first time anyone has taken on the role since Heath Ledger's oscar-winning performance in 2008's The Dark Knight. Margot Robbie will appear alongside Leto as Harley Quinn, The Joker's harlequin protégé. The studio has not et announced who will be playing the role of Amanda Waller, the government agent assigned to oversee the villainous team on their mission. Their considerations are rumored to be Viola David, Octavia Spencer, and Oprah Winfrey. God speed to whomever has to make that decision.
