"It's got kind of a bit of that west coast sound and a dark atmosphere," Jake Bugg
says of his own song, "The Love We're Hoping For" at the end of the video for it. After spending a large amount of time in a dark hotel room, Bugg began writing away and eventually came up with this song, and "dark atmosphere" is an understatement. "The love we're hoping for is dying / Just like this city that we're all in,"
he sings in an ominous tone over acoustic guitar and big drum kicks. The video follows a disturbed woman, also in a dark hotel room, putting on lipstick and then smearing it all over her face, jumping on the bed, and dancing around in a creepy way - we can assume this is the scared woman that Bugg is singing about, who is being used by all of these men. It's deep, dark, painfully honest... But so cathartic and necessary. I mean, with apps like Tinder, love's gotta die, right? (Making a joke to lighten up the mood...) But seriously, listen to this track and embrace the dark side.
