It is great to see buzzy CMJ bands land deals and make moves;
Gorilla Manor will see a release in February via
French Kiss, and
Local Natives can finally bust out of the LA scene and become an indie household name. Their early Yeasayer-ish chanting and collective feel have been turning heads in blog-town, and seeing them at the
Aquarium Drunkard showcase was a pretty nice desert after a healthy helping of fellow LA-sters
Happy Hollows. They are like a Yeasayer smoothie, and with the excitement of
Odd Blood, there is going to be a big demand for their sound.
Now they've begun their dropping of free music and we have "Sun Hands," one of my favorite live numbers they do. These harmonies are SO in vogue right now, guys! They are like the new black. The repeating one line riffs and syncopated harmonies are staples of the bands style, not to mention the sprightly shouting. And the breakdown is pretty tight. Guarenteed to pump you up for a trip to the
Manor.
It remains to be seen if the energy of their live show will carry over to the whole record (although fans in the UK already know). If this track is any indication, then we should probably get JUICED. -
