The newest Kia commercial features "London Queen" singer, Charli XCX
, and Bleachers
' Jack Antonoff covering each other's songs from inside a Kia. Partially, at least: the commercial begins and ends in very different places. First Charli is in the drivers seat of a brand new Kia (because that's believable), cruising through a green screened neon city that looks something like if Vegas and NYC got together and took acid, while Antonoff gives a bassy rendition of Charli's bubblegum anthem "Break The Rules." Cut to a brick wall. Just like that that the car is gone, and Antonoff is providing the guitar accompaniment for Charli's lolita cover of Bleachers' "Rollercoaster." While Charli's performance is happily void of the seizure inducing light show, one wonders what good can come of featuring a brick wall in a car commercial.
This is the second (and final) segment of Kia's "In-Ride Sessions." The first session featured TOKiMONSTA and Lupe Fiasco cruising around the real world, vibing to a chilled out MONSTA remix of Fiasco's hit single "Superstar." Hands down the better of the two sessions, featuring two solid performances sans the violent jump cut, though it's uncomfortable clear neither duo will ever drive a Kia of their own, un-financially-inspired volition.
