Jaden Smith has a lot in common with the weather. Both are inconsistent, mysterious, dependent on the elements of nature
, and really good conversation topics for awkward silences. Nothing quite rolls off the tongue like "Did you see what Jaden Smith did/said/released/tweeted?"
Jaden's latest is a three-song album, which he released this week in honor of Kendall Jenner's birthday. As for the musical content itself, I'll give it a solid eh. My feelings for the album as a pop culture spectacle, however, are anything but. In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Jaden Smith is the backbone of this nation. Sure, he may be pretty averagely talented, but he represents what can happen when you have a strong work ethic and a ton of money. And you can't see he's lacking either. He has also mastered Twitter: He Tweets Using This Style Of Punctuation, which I guess he calls "speaking Jaden
" and only follows five other users.
The album is mediocre in the best way. The hook on "Pleiadian Medicine" is one of my favorite musical moments of 2014. Jaden kills the first verse and then the music stops and he tells you that there is no hook yet because he's still "tweakin' it." That's what music should be; honest, simple, straightforward, unfinished. It's definitely a step up from his previous work
No, but in all seriousness, what a silly album this is.
