Although I spent the past week helping friends and family salvage the last of their possessions and living by candlelight, I hadn't received a true slap of Hurricane Sandy's devastating reality until early this morning. Prior to trekking my way north from Toms River, NJ, to our Manhattan headquarters, I stopped to perform my civic duty at my hometown polling place -- my former high school. Four years ago, I shuffled my way through hallways of angsty teens to reach the gym to cast my vote. This year, however, the school was filled with the familiar faces of local families displaced from their homes, forced to live in a gymnasium lined with military-issued cots.
So today, we're glad to hear about RebuildRecover
, a musically-charged, worthy cause that will provide direct and immediate relief to Hurricane Sandy victims. Local musicians are collecting and delivering donations to shelters throughout the region, and those who aren't physically present are joining the effort by recording PSAs from the road. Videos have already been submitted by artists like Mick Fleetwood, Nicole Atkins
, Brick+Mortar and Passion Pit
, and the list continues to build.
We urge you to donate
and to share the PSA videos below. Stay tuned, as we will continue posting as more artists submit their own videos.
