, Mikey Freedom Hart's psych-soul project, starts off with the fast "Bad Timing." It's funky, with a slight throwback to the good old Motown days. 70's-influenced guitars strum and horns call out. "If U Come Runnin" has a tropical vibe with a bubbly beat, switching to guitars more similar to Beach Boys. Hart continues to pick up the pace until we get to "Hard To Stand," which mainly consists of acoustic guitar and backup vocals singing "ooh wee ahs," sounding like something straight off of Grizzly Bear's Yellow House.
The EP then again picks up the pace. Listening to this EP makes us feel like some alien flew down from above and stuck us in a time capsule. So many nostalgic influences come together to create one extremely sophisticated and exciting record.
Hart on the project, "The writing on the EP is very personal, but intended to be universal. So many emotions have to be portrayed in primary colors in music, so I'm trying to make the 'color' of each of my songs be very specific but if it were a shade of lipstick would have a name like 'Night out / blackout' or something."
