The XX have announced
they are working on a new album, a follow-up to their highly praised 2009 debut. This is great news for many reasons. Here are a few of them.
1. Jamie XX will stop making remixes for a while, and thus stop being interminably praised for his awesomeness despite being quite possibly the most boring part of this band's live show (and that is a TOUGH CATEGORY TO WIN, let me tell you).
2. This band live, versus their studio work, is like Jekyll and Hyde. In the studio, their minimalism comes across as profoundly engaging and beautiful and we can't wait to hear more. On the stage, in the live setting, they resemble crash test dummies watching an educational film in health class.
3. We're missing a bit of awkward sexually frustrated tension in our current neo-R&B landscape. The Weeknd has his shit together. So does Frank Ocean. Nobody knows anything about jj so they don't count.
4. We're sick and tired of people using "Intro" as a soundtrack to things, because it is perfect for that but also really overdone at this point. Now we'll have something new!
