Say what you will about her tumultuous personal life, but Amy Winehouse was an amazingly talented singer. Her soulful voice was the perfect vehicle to propel her jazzy numbers. On 12/5, we'll see Winehouse's first posthumous release, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, a collection of covers and unreleased recordings. We've heard a few of those yet-to-be-released recordings before, and now we've got one called "Halftime."
"Halftime" features light, accented acoustic guitar, a bare-bones drum beat, and bass line and woodwind section that give the song its breezy nature. But the obvious stand out in this song, like any Winehouse song, is the voice. Winehouse croons about feelings of being overwhelmed and being "swallowed whole." Winehouse's voice sounds like velvet, enveloping the listener and carrying them through the heavy lyrics while still keeping it airy enough to not weigh down the track's cool sound. Give "Halftime" a listen below.
