This isn't the first time we've filmed Bear's Den
. Two summers ago Andrew, Kevin, and Joey introduced us to their evocative and often profound songwriting, stringing a simple tangle of acoustic guitar, banjo, and spirited three part harmony together, making instant fans out of our crew and the (hundreds of) thousands who have given that particular video a spin in our sessions section
Last month the band unveiled their debut album Islands
, showing off a more atmospheric folk sound than what we encountered in our original meeting. Such an airy quality is easily distilled from our brand new session with the band, captured while the band bulleted through NYC as part of the always exhausting, CMJ Music Marathon. "Agape", "Above the Clouds of Pompeii", and "Isaac" - all performed in that original session - are dipped in a warm, woozy glow here, with divine results. A splash of cornet to the mix, plus three more of Islands' finest cuts ("Magdalene", "Bad Blood", and "Elysium") make this an extremely moving performance, like a close friend sharing a few emotional secrets for your ears only.
If you like what you hear and you're in NYC, treat yourself to the band's North American tour final on Tuesday 25th of November at The Warsaw in Brooklyn. Tickets available HERE
