It's easy to forget that our indie-rock bubble is just one of the many facets of the music world, and there is plenty of opportunity for young musicians to make it out there that doesn't include playing at Glasslands 900 times. The Songcircle
is an organization focused on finding new talent through live music. They put on showcases all over the country looking for the next big thing. Songcircle has been responsible for a few major label signings, including Company of Thieves
All aspiring musicians should consider applying for their annual songwriting contest, worth $25,000 in cash, gear, and deals with various agencies including EMI.
During 2010, Songcircle has been looking for the act to be their fifth winner of the annual Songcircle writing contest. They've narrowed it down to twelve, and the finalists will all be performing in New York City at City Winery tomorrow for the finals, and the top five from that show on Friday. Garland Jefferies and last year's finalists perform on Thursday (along with the 12), and Friday features the top five and the decision (with a special performance from 2008's winner). Check it out if you like live music and want to be a part of a new music machine that had its start in NYC and has now expanded to a National level.
Support live music. It's what we're all about. -joe puglisi
