J Mascis isn't exactly known for writing breezy, upbeat folk songs. People know him for the blistering, noisy licks he lays down with his band Dinosaur Jr, but on a new track, Mascis shows what he can do with just an acoustic guitar and a snare drum. The track, "I've Been Thinking," features an arpeggiated acoustic riff with Mascis singing in his strained, trademark voice. "I want to go where you are," he sings, and if he is playing songs like this, we will definitely let him come along. The track is off of the Japanese release of Mascis' Several Shades of Why. Now, the track will be released as a 7-inch on 11/22 with Mascis' cover of Edie Brickell's "Circle" spinning on the flip side. Stream "I've Been Thinking" below.
