The year was 1998. JK Rowling released Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Bill Clinton's sex scandal was in full force, and Monica and Brandy topped Billboard's Hot 100 for 13 weeks, earning a Grammy along the way for their duet 'The Boy Is Mine.'
Alas, times change, and so do pop stars. 'The Boy Is Mine' producer Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins has announced that he will produce another version of the song, this time featuring the least Brandy-and-Monica-esque singers of 2014, Ariana Grande a Jessie J. Darkchild is celebrating his 20 successful years in the music industry with a series of new and reimagined songs, most of which seem more palatable than this one. There's even a Sam Smith cover of Whitney Houston's 'It's Not Right It's Okay,' the song Smith credits for making him want to sing. Now, that's a project worthy of honoring a career like Darkchild's.
As for this 'The Boy Is Mine' remake, I think we're all on the same page.
