To celebrate the 20th birthday of U2's Achtung Baby, Q Magazine has invited various artists to cover the songs that made Bono and The Edge household names. The tribute, entitled AHK-toong BAY-bi Covered, features cuts from the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Jack White, and Garbage. Check out one such cover below, The Killers' rendition of "Ultra Violet (Light My Way)."
The Las Vegas outfit's take on the classic U2 song does it justice. The strings at the beginning of the original are replaced by a melodic and heartfelt piano part. Where the original comes in with The Edge's famous delayed, jangling guitar, The Killers show restraint from blasting into the verse at full volume. Instead, they focus on just drums and bass, giving the track a dance-y feel to it. Brandon Flowers gives a stellar Bono impersonation and nails the wailing refrain that ends the song, despite those familiar Flowerisms leaking through the cracks. Check it out.
