I caught
Local Natives for one of their
CMJ shows at the
Mercury Lounge last Thursday, and it was one of those performances that makes you think, yeah I liked you before, but now I REALLY like you, and for a band that's been playing together for five years it really shows.
Local Natives are fundamentally California band, playing on the LA club circuit, building up cred over there. But since this summer they've picked up steam on the blogs (especially for us east coasters) with they're melodic rocker "Airplanes", which was for me, like many others, the first sampling of their lush arrangements and gorgeous driving melodies.
One of the band's stand out strengths is their sprawling harmonies, which sounded stellar live. Really though, check out the pictures from the night, these guys sing their hearts out on stage. They're currently prepping to release their debut album in Europe on November 2nd, and hopefully will be bringing it stateside too. In the meantime, check out their
myspace page because they'll be jumping around the US playing dates for the next couple months. -
