what happened this weekend?

It is warm again, guys! It was warm all week for CMJ in New York, which was neat. And now that CMJ is over we'll have some more pictures for you, as well as a nice summary of what we saw (and remember) and which bands we'd see again. But enough about us, let's see what happened this weekend other than more drinking at delayed showcases! This week we've got a beloved entertainer in questionable condition, a questionable entertainer receiving community service, and a service-oriented entertainer who blames all of us for his poor record sales. Let's begin!

  • Morrissey collapsed on stage at a show in Swindon, England. The exact cause is unclear, although breathing difficulties were cited by Great Western Hospital authorities in a conversation with the BBC. Later a statement on the Morrissey homepage read "Morrissey is in stable condition after his collapse in Swindon Saturday night. Thanks go out to all his well wishers, more information will be posted as soon as it is available." So far one date has been canceled due to medical advice [via DMN]

  • Kanye West has been sentenced to 50 hours of community service. West and his manager smashed a few cameras in LAX last September, and finally they will see justice? This seems a bit light when considering the charges included vandalism and battery. West was also forced to enroll in anger management, so maybe we'll see less photographer assault AND less aggravated all-caps blogging. [via Pitchfork]

  • Bono is upset with poor record sales. Boo-hoo. The record has sold over a million copies, but it is still their poorest selling record in a decade. The citizen of the world actually blames the world for not "getting" U2's latest album, No Line On The Horizon. Bono has blamed the modern consumer's "diet of pop," but how is that diet any different than it was ten years ago? Maybe people just buy fewer records, Bono. Don't take it personally. Although, "Get On Your Boots" could have been a whole lot better. [via The Guardian]
