Brooklyn-based quartet Quiet Lights has been garnering positive buzz in the blogosphere for their dreamy, ethereal, but purposeful sound. They are now ready to deliver on this promise and have just released their first single, entitled "Ablaze," for free on their Bandcamp page
. It almost put me in a dreaming state, but I think that has more to do with it being post CMJ and midterms week (ugh) and me getting no sleep than with the tune, which features laid-back but steadily driving rhythms overlaid with wispy, ethereal melodies. These jams are far from boring... the B-side "Twice Today" is just as good if not better and is also available for free.
"Ablaze" is Quiet Lights' first official release, although they also have a three-song sampler streaming on their pages. Their as-yet untitled debut album, which will feature "Ablaze" as its first single, was recorded over the summer and will be out sometime early next year, according to the band.
The group also nabbed a feature recently on Flavorpill Mixtape XLIII
, alongside the likes of Deerhoof
and Rick Ross
Quiet Lights skipped the madness of CMJ this year, but they will be playing a show with A Sunny Day in Glasgow
(we like them!) and Esben & The Witch
at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn tomorrow (10/26). The show starts at 8:30 and tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. -peter menniti
