Our favorite Minneapolis hip-hop collective decided to drop the pretense of solo careers for the moment and form a supergroup under their label moniker. Doomtree is one project, powered by Sims, Lazerbeak, Cecil Otter, Dessa, P.O.S., Mike Mictlan, and Paper Tiger (all seven members of the Doomtree collective). The group recently dropped their first single, "The Grand Experiement", and in a move that seems like a response to a recent giant rap release, named their forthcoming album No Kings.
Doomtree prides itself on the uniqueness of its artists and the collective label approach. The album will reflect this transcendent attitude, hosting each of its component rappers playing off each other's differences to create a larger whole. First single "The Grand Experiement" could describe the entire project, but it's too damn fun for pontificating. Just check it out.
No Kings is out 11/22. Who's watching the throne now?
