  • Kopecky Family Band Brings Down the House at Brooklyn Bowl
Even though it was a Monday night, Nashville's Kopecky Family Band brought more than enough energy to Brooklyn Bowl - fooling everyone into believing it was a Saturday night. The band definitely had a busy day traveling (and hijacking our Instagram account yesterday), but they arrived dressed to the nines, looking dapper with their array of instruments beside them; with everything put together, their chemistry onstage was brought to life.

Kelsey, (whose last name lends itself to the band), Gabe, Markus, Steven, Corey and David had their musical "baby" (as Kelsey said onstage) at midnight. The seven-piece group released their debut album, Kids Raising Kids, which is reflective of their love of music and of their musical family.

With Kelsey's dynamic vocals, she presented herself in the way Jenny Lewis would perform in Rilo Kiley. Maybe it was the way she could be seen as the glue holding the band together, but her look and sound brought me back to The Execution of All Things.

Generally the show was kept at an upbeat pace, but Kopecky Family Band slowed it down for the beautiful "Animal" and "Waves." The band got the crowd clapping along when they played their hit single, "Heartbeat." The crowd engagement was contagious, and seeing as how the band played songs from both of their EPs, Of Epic Proportions and The Disaster, it was understandable as to why. Kopecky Family Band was eager to please and prepared to knock the socks off of die-hard fans as well as the attendees who had never heard of them before.

Openers, Wild Cub and The Kingston Springs set the tone for the evening; it wouldn't be surprising to see either of these bands headlining shows next time around. Wild Cub was wildly entertaining as an opener for Kopecky Family. They harbored a similar style to Walk the Moon and played a plethora of songs from their debut album released in August, Youth. The Kingston Springs brought a blues-infused sound to the stage, reminiscent of rockers, The Black Keys.

The show overall was one big indie-rock, orchestral party, and hopefully New York will be able to celebrate with Kopecky Family Band again soon.

Until then, you can watch our video of a previous Kopecky Family Band performance.
