We are only a few days away from our CMJ showcase, and, to say the least, we are getting pretty excited about it. So many great acts will be taking over Spike Hill with us on Friday and Saturday, and we are pleased to announce that Viva Brother
will be among them. Viva Brother's mix of pop-rock calls back to the simpler time of the '90s. After changing their band name more times than P. Diddy, (or is it just Diddy?) the band adopted the Viva Brother moniker and released their debut album Famous First Words
Viva Brother's mix of pop-rock calls back to the simpler time of the 1990s. The jangling guitars and thick British accents that permeate throughout their songs bring bands like Oasis and the Stone Roses to mind. Their songs are laden with thick guitar licks, propulsive drum beats, and harmonies that show off singer Lee Newell's falsetto. They sing with the desperation and bravado that seems to be standard for U.K. youths—dealing with the hardships of lost love, or maybe more accurately, lost lust. This seems to be typical fare for the boys from Slough, especially considering the "gritpop" tag they've given themselves to describe their sound. It's the kind of music that makes you want to spend the day in the pub, talking in a cockney accent pretending you're in a Guy Ritchie movie.
Follow the band down seedy city streets in their trippy new video for the single "Time Machine," sing along to "Darling Buds Of May," and catch them Friday evening at The Launch Pad.
