Big, bodacious, and beautiful. That's what Beth Ditto is and if you don't like it, too bad.
The Gossip's Beth Ditto, Brace Paine, and Hannah Blilie graced the stage at Terminal 5 last Friday and put on quite the show. Originally from Olympia, Washington, Ditto is more known in the UK and various other places across the pond, but the venue was absolutely packed and you could hardly breathe. The Gossip is usually known for their flashy, flesh bearing performances, but Ditto's soulful voice got the crowd going. Unfortunately, this performance was quite tame, and Ditto managed to keep her clothes on the entire performance. Nevertheless, The Gossip's catchy dance punk got the crowd hootin' and hollerin'.
While on stage, Ditto preached understanding and acceptance for your fellow human and I was definitely feeling the love. At times, I had to restrain myself from climbing on stage and giving her a hug. This was one of Ditto's last performances in North America, but still has dates set for Montreal, Toronto, and Chicago. After that, she's off to France, Germany, and then to the UK, where I"m sure she'll be greated warmly (underwear thrown on stage, marriage proposals). The Gossip's fourth album, Music for Men, was released June 23rd in the US and June 22nd in the UK. Songs like Heavy Cross and Love Long Distance were greeted by screams when Ditto started strutting her stuff last Friday. -
