, a.k.a. writer/comedian Donald Glover, has had a rough go of it gaining traction in the hip hop world, "they were like, you sound like Milhouse rapping." We weren't like that though. We were about Childish Gambino since before he dropped his first studio album CAMP
back in 2011, and we were right. Recently, the internet's been lovin' on Childish Gambino
since he surprised it with the unannounced release of STN MTN / KAUAI
. To be fair he owed it one, his guest rapper rich 2013 LP, Because the Internet
, legitimized Gambino as a hip hop artist who isn't going anywhere but forward.
We filmed a less tragically hip Gambino about his "middle class black kid problems" at Rockwood Music Hall in 2011, and then we made him talk about it. Cool like hip hop, and funny like stand-up; from back in the day, it's a profile not to be missed.
In observance of the high internet holiday of #TBT, here it is kids: Throwback Thursday from the Baeble Archives giving you Childish Gambino at Rockwood Music Hall.
