We've never been more reminded that Millennials are on the verge of taking over the world from whiny Boomers (yeah, we went there) than when we sat down to watch Neon Indian
perform on Fallon. A) Fallon is arguably one of the key comedy figures (in terms of mainstream recognition) for Millennials since his SNL
days and B) we're hard-pressed to name a more "Millennial" indie subniche than chillwave. It's just bizarre to think that this is the same stage that Johnny Carson used to call home. Weird, wild stuff indeed.
What isn't weird is how much we all love Alan Palomo & co. at this point. 2012 was the Summer of Chillwave, and although we're well into Fall at this point (although maybe someone should tell Mother Nature that), we could always go for some chill vibes and Neon Indian brings the chill in addition to his live theatrics to Fallon. We think Carson would understand that things change.
Neon Indian's new album, Vega Intl. Night School
is out 10/16.
