[Ed. Note: This video/post is going up with content/trigger warnings for simulated displays of graphic violence and the effects of school shootings.]
If you care more about your right to own a firearm than the lives and safety of children in America, you can f*** off. That's Baeble's official editorial stance. We have many fathers on our staff (and a soon to be father), and the right for the kids of our staff and kids around the country to go to school without being afraid that some kid is going to murder everyone with a gun he never should have had access to in the first place is more important than any misinterpretation of the Founders' intent with the 2nd Amendment. And California neo-grunge singer-songwriter EMA has captured all of the anxiety and anger we all feel about this spate of senseless killings that is holding our nation hostage as our children die due to the inaction of our nation's leader and the nihilistic greed of the NRA and arms dealers.
EMA released a new single and video titled "Active Shooter" consisting of first-person body-cam footage of an actual "active shooter" prep drill conducted by the police in a school. I didn't' realize it wasn't a real incident at first because the blood and injuries look so real and graphic. The first-person element of the video adds a tense urgency as police check doors trying to find the shooter and mostly finding "dead" bodies. And EMA's track is a dissonant and unsettling collage of noise and reverb and anxious dread. I was getting light-headed watching the video because it all felt too real but that's the point. This video is angry and confrontational which is the only way to discuss this issue anymore.
