If it was only a rumor earlier today, now confirmed: Mark Bell, producer, one half of British house duo LFO and a highly influential figure in house music, is dead. Though the exact cause is unknown, press releases from sources as varied as Warp Records (the label much of Bell's work appeared on) and The Black Dog's (one of the premier house/techno booking agencies in the UK) twitter feed confirmed that it had something to do with complications arising in surgery.

Those of you not familiar with Bell's work in LFO might instead recognize him as one of the producers who contributed their effort time and time again to Bjork. From Homogenic until Biophilia he was an invaluable contributor to her albums; he also helped out Depeche Mode on Exciter and dabbled with Deltron 3000 back in the day. It's a shame to see one of the good ones go, but there it is. Not the kindest day in music history.
