The week is finally here: Love for Levon is only two days away!
In the state of today's media world, how often do you see so many amazing musicians come together to honor another? Not very. When it comes to someone like Levon Helm, however, you can bet that kind of love is going to rise.
I could sit here and ramble on about Levon all day, but I'll try to keep this short:
This amazing musician came right out of Arkansas and set the music world on fire. He wasn't swayed by the dirty business, he stayed true to himself and set out to make music that he loved and wanted to share with the world. In 2004, Levon started the Midnight Ramble Sessions at his studio in Woodstock. Not only was he joined on stage each month by great musicians, but there's also a highly sought after sense of community that goes along with the intimacy of the Rambles.
Before Levon passed on in April, he urged those close to him to "keep it goin'", and so that's just what everyone is coming together to do.
The line-up includes Roger Waters, My Morning Jacket, John Mayer, Joe Walsh, Gregg Allman, Lucinda Williams, Mavis Staples, Allan Toussaint, The Levon Helm Band, his former The Band bandmate Garth Hudson, and so many others.
So, if you're in the area Wednesday, carve out some time to join us at Love for Levon. The concert is set to take place at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, NJ on Wednesday, 10/3, at 8PM.
