Last week, Jim James
strapped on his iconic black cape with My Morning Jacket
to headline a Hurricane Sandy benefit at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ. Today, however, James is back at promoting his debut solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God
(2/5 via ATO
), with the release of its newest song, "A New Life."
Our first sampling of James' solo project came in the funky form of "Know Til Now,"
and his latest is equally distinctive from his work with My Morning Jacket. It opens soft but builds into an Orbison-esque Rockhouse jive.
James explained to Rolling Stone
, the song was inspired from the wordless 1929 woodcut novel God's Man
by Lynd Ward (of course it was).
