Eyes Ahead, The Helio Sequence To Make Up For Lost Time

Call it the Leslie Feist method for making it big. Scorch your voice to the point of prolonged, doctor ordered periods of absolute silence, perfect other important areas of mind, body, and soul, and later regroup with a renewed sense of vigor and enthusiasm for the art you were denied throughout the recovery process. Worked for little miss I-Pod. Now Brandon Summers is hoping he and his band, The Helio Sequence, will reap the same kind of rewards.

After scorching his voice raw during the tour in support of the band’s Sub Pop debut, Love and Distance, Summer spent two months of ’04 in stunning silence. In music’s place, he polished off 60 books, took up exercising, and vowed to avoid the route of the lazy musician. Once given the a-ok, Summers embraced vocal exercises and new mic technique, structured his schedule, and regrouped The Helio Sequence to record Keep Your Eyes Ahead. While Sub Pop is not slated to release the album until January 29th, our favorite Seattlites are treating us with the title track, and first single from the album. It’s a fashionable little number, shoegazing along to chirpy guitar lines, bouncy beats, and Summer’s sleek and refined vocals. Give it a whirl below – David Pitz
