The four boys from
Liverpool Columbia (sorry) have announced some new tour dates in support of
Contra. Can't wait for Tuesday? Good news, bloody-sundays (new unofficial nickname for VW fans, probably): the entire album is
streaming online for free! Popped collar not included.
Having heard
Contra already, I can safely say that the album is much more "Horchata" than "Cousins." Decidedly mellowed out,
Vampire Weekend definitely continues down the Paul Simon/Graceland comparison rabbit hole (though VERY unfairly stipulated by narrow minded critics). They sound more and more like, well, Vampire Weekend. Afro-pop is a lot different than this. Go listen to
these guys for perspective.
But Vampire Weekend did a great job of sounding like Vampire Weekend! If you are a fan I'd go see their sophomore concert now, before they become so big you have to pay $75USD to sit in the nosebleeds and buy ten dollar beers because America.
Too bad there isn't a lot of "Cousins" on
Contra because we really like "Cousins"! Check it out, they even played it on Letterman instead of Borchata:
