As a young, hardworking independent band, the thought of being bear hugged by the welcoming arms of just the right kind of label you know, the kind that actually gives a damn about nurturing and developing their artists over time has got to be a bit mind numbing
double the goodness when it is the mighty
Merge Records that comes a calling. So you can imagine what is racing through
Jenn Wasner and
Andy Stacks heads these days. Thats because the Baltimore duo, known as
Wye Oak, has officially been scooped up by the label to release their debut,
If Children, on April 8th. From the PR
If Children is the culmination of many months of recording, polishing and perfecting to achieve what Any Given Tuesday best described as, . .. . Mingling in a room full of shoe gaze, alt-country, folk, and noise, shaking hands, kissing cheeks, and making friends with everyone.
If Children is an exuberant debut noisy and restrained in turn, Wye Oak describe their philosophy: We'd like to think that if a song is good enough, it'll stand on its own regardless of how much noise you pile on top. On the other hand, we do like noise. Listen and we think you will have to agree!
