Let the fans take comfort; Man Man
can still put on one hell of a show. I caught the insane genre-flipping/experimental band's performance at SUNY Purchase Saturday night, and can sincerely state that this band is still one of the best live acts around. They sound-checked and after about five minutes came on decked in skeletal onesies and a full on mosh pit immediately flooded the stage at The Stood [student center] as the band proceeded to play for a solid two hours, encore included. All four members are multi-instrumentalists, providing their live shows with a large variety of sounds, moods, and textures ranging from polka-tinged Tom Waitsy blues to head-banging thrashers. Honus Honus (an alumni to the college) strutted around the stage when he wasn't planted behind the keys going through frequent costumes changes, dawning alien masks and Egyptian robes. It was a treat to see the band that's been around so long still be capable of riling up a young, drunk crowd of college kids, myself being one of them.
