Mixtape Wednesdays: Unexpected Bands That Should Headline Madison Square Garden

Yesterday brought news that Brand New are going on a co-headlining tour with Modest Mouse and Brand New will be playing the big closing set at Madison Square Garden in July. I'm still trying to process this information. Brand New are the definition of a DIY band, and I expect to see them in venues like Le Poisson Rouge here in NYC, not the Garden. They're moving up in the world. That said (and I hate to be the pessimist as a massive Brand New fan), I can't see any scenario where they and Modest Mouse sell out the Garden. But clearly the Garden had to take that into account. And it got us thinking? If we were booking the Garden and didn't have to care about actually selling the joint out, who would we ask to play? So we put together a list of bands that are dripping with pure live talent and should play the Garden even if we're pretty sure most of them probably never will.
