The early '00s were hailed as the second-coming of the garage rock bands of the 1970s. The Strokes, the White Stripes, the Vines, and the Hives were all at the height of their success, and everyone predicted that rock was back. 10 years later and Jack White's career has devolved to working with Insane Clown Posse ("Fell in Love with a Juggalo" perhaps?), the Strokes have never been able to live up to the stratospheric success of Is This It
, and when was the last time we heard anything from the Vines or Hives. After a decade of diminishing garage presences in the indie rock scene, the Black Keys have exploded with their two successive critically acclaimed albums in a row, 2010's Brothers
and December's megahit El Camino
. San Francisco garage rockers Royal Baths
are trying to cash in on this potential garage resurgence with their sophomore LP, Better Luck Next Life
. There's definitely a bluesy but raw grunge sound here on the track "Faster, Harder" and Royal Baths have officially entered our radar.
