  • Out and About: Ingrid Michaelson
    Photos By Carianne Hixson

Indie-Popper Ingrid Michaelson stopped into Best Buy in Manhattan today to promote her new album Human Again and sign some CDs for her loyal, mostly female (wink wink) fans. She joked about how 5AM for a businessman is 1PM for a musician, but proved to be what her upcoming fifth album's title suggests, showing off some impeccably human vocals. She began with the song "Soldier," from her last album Everybody. The song was pleasing with its ukulele strumming and inspirationally cliche lyrics, "the battle of the heart isn't easily won / but it can be won." She then transitioned right into an older song, making sure to keep her publicists and her fans equally content.

Dropping some entertaining anecdotes to appease the crowd was also her strong suit, making all the girls and boys in the crowd giggle. She also joked about being a diva as she moved from ukulele to keyboard and started singing a new song "Black & Blue." This 'woe is me' tune could've been too much to handle had she not forgotten the lyrics midway through, distracting the crowd with another lighthearted joke to ease her inner turmoils.

Ingrid spoke humbly about her experience singing/lip-syncing (admittedly so) at the Macy's Day Parade and about how she was humored by hearing a handful of people in the crowd scream, "who are you?!" She ended with her first single "Ghost," off of the new album-- a somber tune about heartbreak in its most dramatic form. It must've been an interesting year for Ingrid, as she miraculously shifted from ghost to Human (again) and recorded an entire album about the experience. She finished with a little spoiler, letting the crowd know she'd be back in her home city (but not borough) in April to perform at Terminal 5. The album is out today.

Check out some pictures from her performance.
