• Dave Grohl Waxes Nostalgic With Sound City Players
Dave Grohl's marathon concert showcasing his new collaborators (known together as the Sound City Players) Friday night in Park City, Utah has been praised by critics, fans, and, most of all, by Dave Grohl. He's been working on a documentary about Sound City Records, the legendary Los Angeles studio where Nirvana recorded Nevermind, and the supergroup performance coincided with its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. We tend to agree with the flack Grohl has received for calling the film his "life's most important work," as opposed to, oh, I don't know, being in Nirvana, but that doesn't change the fact that a 3-hour concert (with no breaks) during which he plays with Krist Novoselic, Brad Wilk, John Fogerty, and Stevie Nicks (all of whom recorded at Sound City) is pressing our nostalgia button in a good way.

That being said, Grohl's purchase of the entire soundboard from Sound City and a live rendition of "Jesse's Girl" is the kind of behavior that reeks of midlife crisis.

Check out some highlight covers - from the headbanging to the downright weird - below:

"Hangin' Tree" (Queens Of The Stone Age)

    "Fortunate Son" (Credence Clearwater Revival)

    "Jesse's Girl" (Rick Springfield)
