  • Rerecorded for their Sub Pop debut, "Jail La La" is the perfect taste of the fun, flighty pop that got the Dum Dum Girls signed in the first place. Needless to say Dee Dee, founder and front-lady, is achieving her self proclaimed MO of "blissed-out buzz saw."

For those unfamiliar, Dum Dum Girls formed in '08 as a solo project, the name being a nod to both The Vaselines' album, Dum-Dum, and the Iggy Pop song "Dum Dum Boys". Both make sense, on I Will Be, Dee Dee has constructed a bunch of mid 80's punk sounding tunes, with nods to bands like The Ramones. Several notable guests make appearances on the record: Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner plays on "Yours Alone", and Crocodiles' Brandon Welchez sings and plays guitar on the duet "Blank Girl". But these girls don't need any help being the punks they are; good old fashioned punking is what they do best.

I Will Be is out 3/26 via Sub Pop and Dee Dee's old label, HoZac. -joe puglisi
