Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij isn't just famous for his studio work with one of the most beloved indie pop acts of the last ten years. He's also a highly sought after producer for other performers. And he, alongside Dev Hynes and Ariel Rechtshaid, worked with Carly Rae Jepsen on her excellent 2015 record, Emotion. Well, it turns out that Batmanglij wants to join Vampire Weekend bandmate Chris Baio on the "release non-VW material" train because's he's dropped a new track, "EOS."
If you're looking for something that sounds anything like a Vampire Weekend song, head somewhere else. This track is really weird. It sounds more like a Panda Bear solo track than anything Vampire Weekend ever released (or, honestly, most of the non-VW tracks that Batmanglij has released). He's releasing the material under the mononym Rostam. There's no word if we'll be getting a full Rostam LP, but between this and Baio's work, we're growing increasingly skeptical of a Vampire Weekend record in 2016.
