Last week, we were beyond excited to report that Bonnie "Prince" Billy was releasing a record of previously unreleased BBC Peel session performances. The new album, Pond Scum, will be out at the end of the month, and another one of the tracks has been released in advance of the new record. This time, we find the alternative folk mainstay tackling the seemingly impossible, Prince, and pulling out a victory. Bonnie "Prince" Billy just dropped a cover of Prince's (aka the artist formerly known as) "The Cross" off of 1987's Sign O' the Times. "Funky" is probably the last word that we'd ever use to describe Will Oldham which is why it was a good decision for him to take an entirely different path for this version of Prince's track. It's a dramatic, almost theatrical spin on the track that would almost feel at home on I See A Darkness with its strumming guitars and quavering falsetto.
