Russian new wave trio Tesla Boy calls you to dance floor asking "Do you wanna dance?" in this video for "Broken Doll" featuring Tyson, off their Broken Doll EP.
Introducing...TESLA BOY! Tesla Boy is the hottest band to come out of Russia since...well, probably ever! Although the band was formed in late 2008, they have yet to be labeled by anyone as "newcomers" to the electro-pop scene. It's all here - dreamy melodies, Moroder-esque basslines, melancholic sleazy vocals, and glittering synth hooks that are to die for. Yes, fans of that 80s Synthpop/New Wave sound are in for a real treat - but Tesla Boy isn't purely retro...oh no! Lovers of contemporary bands such as Cut Copy, Zoot Woman, Empire Of The Sun and Junior Boys won't be able to resist Tesla Boy's incredible modernistic style. This is what modern-day pop music should be all about; combining the vibes of your favorite 80s pop songs with the sounds of today. Here, the result is mind-blowingly good.
At the speed of light, they conquered the local crowd with live appearances at Moscow's hippest art gallery openings, playing sold-out gigs in all the main Soviet cities, as well as headlining the 3 main Russian music festivals: Afisha, Stereo Leto and MIGZ. All that with only the promo CD under their belts! Meanwhile, bloggers around the world caught Tesla's 'fire', describing the three-piece band with glowing lines such as "some of the most exciting electronic music of the year" and "the best thing to come from Russia since vodka". Britains Q magazine recently featured them on their center spread. Popular UK-based websites The Music Fix and Popjustice dubbed them as the best pop group in the world today and picked Electric Lady as the Song of the Day, respectively. Tesla Boy has appeared in international music and fashion publications such as Citizen K, LOfficiel, Harpers Bazaar, In Style, Billboard and Rolling Stone. All 5 tracks from the promo EP have been received with critical acclaim and are continuing to find their way onto countless mixtapes, primetime radio playlists, and dancefloors. BBC Radio 1 also included them in their premier dance music programme.
Since August 2009, the band has been signed to the British label Mullet Records. The original EP, together with the EP Remixed that features remixes from Tesla's label mates, are both out and available in all digital stores. The EP Remixed reached the ?3 slot on the Junodownload charts during the week of its release, a feat that a Russian electronic act has never accomplished before. The debut album "Modern Thrills" is OUT NOW!
