"I'll be the first one in the river/And the last one to swim". It's a chorus that gives you a good idea of what this song from Pennsylvanian songwriter Tim Showalter is all about. It's somber and quiet, but eventually boils over with a nice heap of emotion.
Showalter calls his project Strand of Oaks, and he released his take on lonesome, one-man blues last year with an album called Pope Killdragon. If "Last to Swim" is any indication of the album as a whole, it's an intimate and self-confessional kind of portrait. Naturally, the first video would follow suit.
