LA based newcomers Phantoms are out with the award winning video for "Voyeur."

Artist Bio

Since we last heard from Phantoms theyve been busy racking up praise from fans and critics alike with the unique style of dark, rhythm-heavy, grooving dance tracks filled with avant pop and neo-soul vocals. Much buzzed-about performances at this years SXW along with a tour alongside Viceroy have only served to elevate their stature. As they prepare for the release of their full-length debut, theyve kept the music coming, premiering the new track for Voyeur, which premiered to much excitement on Stereogum. The song found Phantoms collaborating once again with Nicholas Braun to create a tune that Less Than 3 referred to as a smooth and funky jam. Brauns vocals lend the perfect amount of smoothness to the complex rhythms and arrangement that serves as the backbone.

The Ace Norton-directed video is a black and white piece of cinema that presents a story of the fiercest elements of competition. It begins with a ballerina audition in an old ballroom, with the members of Phantoms playing the role of judges. Between the judgmental looks for the fellow dancers and the disapproving critique of the judges, this girl has simply had enough. The ensuing rampage is both frightening and satisfying, perhaps because most people have had the desire the same desire to unleash this sort of rage towards authorities. Several attempts to subdue her are made but ultimately she has the last word, pulling the world around her into her own sphere, rather than conform to another.
