Chicago based soul quintet, JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound
, are getting ready to tear the cover off their new album Howl
; a record that promises "soul music by children of the post-punk era". We're hoping that means lots of big, distorted rhythmic grooves to go along with all the hip shaking and sing-alongs their music generally demands.
To get us back in the swing of things, the band put together the "Ordinary" music video; a song that blazes a revolutionary spirit ("I believe we can crush the old guard / Work with us, we want names"), but actually speaks of rebellion in personal relationships. Someone's getting lied to and JC Brooks ain't having it. For the premiere of their video for the song, the band enlisted the help of young Traevon Howard and World Air Guitar Champion Justin "Nordic Thunder" Howard. Somehow I don't think they're related. But damn, do they look the camera in the eye and testify about a relationship that never stood a chance.
will be out May 21st via Bloodshot Records
