Edmonton new wavers Cygnets take their glittery tune "Born In Vain" to a labyrinthal highway in their latest music video.
Cygnets are a new wave band that have established themselves through their energetic shows, diverse influences, and dedicated efforts. Drawing inspiration from genres such as post punk and Britpop to indie rock, pop, and electronic dance music, they have created a unique and engaging sound that contrasts danceable uplifting music with darkly personal lyrics.
The band is the culmination of many years of work, as songwriter and musician Logan Turner worked privately writing and recording hundreds of songs before deciding to explore a group dynamic. This collaboration was finally realized in close friends Chris Bruce and Dan Snow. Bringing textured, inspiring guitar work and bright, catchy synthesizer hooks, they compliment and enhance Logan's ambitious songwriting style and singular, melodic voice. In 2009, they began to draw local attention, with favorable comparisons to bands such as The Smiths, Joy Division and Depeche Mode. In 2010 they released their debut album 'Bleak Anthems to much acclaim as both a free download and a free physical CD. The growing buzz garnered national radio play and attention from print media, leading to opening slots for acts such as You Say Party! We Say Die!, Apoptygma Berzerk, and Shout Out Out Out Out.
With momentum building Cygnets pressed forward with their unique and independent approach. 2011 saw them launch a successful fundraising campaign for a new record, film numerous music videos, and further develop their engaging and unforgettable live show. March 2012 marks the release of their 2nd album 'Dark Days', showcasing their creativity through expressive, danceable music juxtaposed with dark, aggressive edges and compelling lyrics.
