Though they hail from the land-locked locale of Austin TX, The Calm Blue Sea couldn't have picked a better namesake. The band's ambient haze of music conjures up the kind of satisfied curiosity that comes from staring into the bright blue horizon, knowing you stand on the edge of both a continent and an ocean...giant expanses of land and water streaking out in all directions. It's compelling stuff, especially when seen through the lens of a live music film series they've dubbed Aberrations & Departures. The series is an eight part look into the lives of an Austin outfit. Forget any images of the place that annual trip to SXSW plants in your mind; this is everyday Austin seen through the eyes of the people who inhabit it the other eleven and a half months of the year. Band members, along with six different filmmakers, picked a variety of locations for these live performances, and needed no audio overdubs or edits to tell the story of the band's music.
