Camera Obscura
has always embodied the classic Glasglow indiepop sound, filled with rich 60's inspired pop melodies and characterized by Tracyanne's unmistakable voice, sweet but tinged with melancholy. Their latest album,
My Maudlin Career
shows their evolution from their original sentimental and heartbreak soaked songs into brighter, grander, more confident sentimental and heartbreak stained pop.
Their latest video for "Honey in the Sun" off the new album perfectly captures this change in sound but certainly not style or brilliance. The deceptively sweet and romantic storyline of the opening verse, floats above tinkling horns and guitars, then a flurry of instruments deliver toward the climactic chorus, "I wish my heart was as cold as the morning dew/But it's as warm as saxophones/And honey in the sun for you," are the sort of lines that only Camera Obscura can write and Traceyanne can deliver. Live performances and scene snippets in the video capture the thrill in this fleeting lost romance and its lingering ghost with a retro indiepop glow. Watch the video featured below and see Camera Obscura on their tour, dates listed below. -
