Motel Motel - 7.13.2009 at Baeble's Guest Apartment

Brooklyn-based quintet Motel Motel came together through a chain of events involving Berklee School of Music, modernist paintings, and a pizza parlor. After recording a mix of alt-country and raspy folk rock on their debut, the New Denver LP, the band quickly began amassing new fans and earning the support and enthusiasm of some of NYC's most credible sources, a difficult task for any band treading the oversaturated waters of the Brooklyn music scene.

Early fans ranging from SPIN declaring MM's single, "Coffee," "The best Ryan Adams or Cold War Kids song of 2008," to Brooklyn Vegan proclaiming a "willingness to gamble it all on these five gifted musicians," caused the band to team up with The Rebel Group (Ra Ra Riot, Cloud Cult, Say Hi) for the nationwide release of their New Denver LP on July 7 th . Motel Motel caught the ears and hearts of writers and fans alike, causing NY Press , The Huffington Post , New York Post , and The L Magazine to all designate them as a "must-hear-band." They also recorded a recent Daytrotter session, featuring unreleased music that will be available for your listening pleasure soon.

After completing a successful tour that included eight SXSW shows early in the year, the group has already lined up a summer tour in support of New Denver , with dates being scheduled for the Southeast and Midwest US, with more to follow. Along with these summer tour plans, Motel Motel will be playing a string of dates in and around their hometown in April/May.

On past tours the band has been privileged to share the stage with such acts as The Fiery Furnaces, Crystal Stilts and Phosphorescent. Falling asleep in namesake locales while traveling during the coming months, Motel Motel will be touring the country to spread their soulful folk, proving that, when it comes down to it, they're more than just a band to occasionally drop in on.

Motel Motel - New Denver

Motel Motel carried with them the essence of distant Western lands, faraway stories and their own distinctive identity when they brought a few of their layered songs to our Guest Apartment. From the dusty unexpected burst of the melody of "Harlem," to a new song inspired by a Hemingway short story, in quiet, then insistent ragged pop, catch their performance below and get transported to their vintage scratchy world. - Laura Yan
