When the Delgados amicably went their separate directions back in 2005, fans of the band's sublime pop vision could have only felt as if they lost a rare and special group to hang their hat on. After all, the band did play the part of forerunners to the Scottish pop renaissance…a scene that later blossomed in Glasgow with the likes of Belle and Sebastian and Mogwai. Call them the one time epicenter if you'd like.
Of course that was then, and this is now. And the lovely thing about the here is now is the return to form of founding member Emma Pollock. In September '07 the Scottish charmer released Watch the Fireworks (4AD); a collection of songs that find Pollock "clearly in her comfort zone…both vocally and musically" (Pitchfork). To top it all off, Pollock also had the opportunity to open a slew of dates with the New Pornographers. Not too bad for a ten year pro who suddenly finds herself starting off again, so to speak. – David Pitz
A founding member of dreamy Scotland alternative rock group the Delgados, singer/songwriter/guitarist Emma Pollock signed to 4AD Records in 2005 after the band's amicable dissolution. Pollock utilized the formidable talents of former Delgados drummer and husband Paul Savage, keyboardist Jamie Savage, and Aereogramme bass player Campbell McNeil for her solo debut, Watch the Fireworks which was released in September 2007. - all music
